Dominique and Treasure

Our
Story

It was April 2022, and AAU basketball season was in full swing. Treasure, living in Greenville, SC at the time, was coaching a 7th grade girls’ team alongside one of her college teammates. Little did she know, the weekend would set the stage for an encounter that would change her life forever.

Dee, on the other hand, was in full crisis mode—searching high and low for a spoon to eat his McDonald's yogurt parfait. After scouring the gym in frustration, he gave up and ended up standing right next to Treasure. Unbeknownst to him, he had just chosen the spot where his future wife would be.

Coincidentally, Treasure’s team and Dee’s team were set to face off twice over the weekend. Some might call it fate, others, luck. Naturally, Treasure’s team came out on top both times. But behind the scenes, there was something else brewing. Before the game even started, Treasure had casually asked Dee’s head coach if Coach Dee was single. (You know what they say—shooters gotta shoot! 😉)

After the final whistle blew, the teams shook hands, exchanged pleasantries, and went their separate ways. Or so they thought. As Treasure was driving out of the parking lot en route to her next game, she suddenly had a change of heart. "Stop the car!" she told her friend. Looking over, she saw Dee walking out of the gym and knew this could be her last chance to say something. Without hesitation, she rolled down her window and shouted, "Good game, Coach!"

To her surprise, the head coach dropped everything and sprinted over to her car. As he reached the window, he handed her a business card with Coach Dee’s number on it. Treasure accepted it with a smile, then went on her way to the next game.

But the story didn’t end there. As Treasure was about to take the court for her championship game, she spotted Dee sitting in the front row, watching her intently. She couldn’t help but smile, but it was game time, so she forced herself to focus.

Once the game ended, Treasure made her way toward the exit, and—guess who was waiting? Coach Dee, standing outside, just as calm as ever. They chatted for a bit about the tournament, but no contact info was exchanged. They said their goodbyes and parted ways... or so it seemed.

Then, Treasure remembered the business card.

After an hour of debating with herself, she finally mustered the courage to send a text:
"Hey, it’s Treasure. Just wanted to say it was really nice meeting you, and hopefully, I’ll see you around in Charleston."

She immediately threw her phone across the room, nervously waiting for a reply. Minutes later, her phone buzzed with Dee's response. And just like that, the two haven’t stopped talking since. Four years later, they are preparing to say “yes” to forever.
